The Pangasinan State University and the University of the Philippines – Los Baños opened their doors of partnership on the project titled ‘Value Chain Analysis for Selected Bamboo Products in the Philippines.’

The PSU officials, led by University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas together with the OIC- Vice President for Research, Extension and Innovation Dr. Razeale G. Resultay, accommodated the UP-LB Team on March 2 for a meeting prior to the discussion of the project’s objectives, terms, procedures and other requirements needed by the two institutions.

Value Chain Analysis for Selected Bamboo Products in the Philippines, is a project initiated by the Department of Social Forestry and Forest Governance of UP Los Baños to examine the Philippine bamboo industry though value chain lens which will help to build on earlier works on Bamboo value chains and will supply additional details for a better understanding of the industry’s status and problems.

UP-LB Research Team Project Leader Dr. Felisa L. Malabayabas stated that the project will collect data from both primary and secondary sources.

She added that the primary data will be obtained from different stakeholders of the Bamboo Value Chain like farmers, entrepreneurs, owners and staff of private companies while the secondary data will be sourced from published and unpublished reports related to bamboo in the
Philippines which includes PSU.

PSU believes that through research, extension and production, gaps in various aspects in the society are timely filled-up with innovative intervention to uplift individual’s life and renew its relevance to the changing times.
