The Pangasinan State University has been selected as the Global Citizenship Education (GCED) Regional Hub for Region I of the Philippine GCED Network.

In a Memorandum of Agreement Signing held at the Swiss-Belhotel Blulane in Manila on October 18, PSU became a part of the GCED Philippines Network along with 18 other universities in the country.

Dr. Serafin Arviola, the Director of GCED Cooperation Centre (GCC) Philippines, said the launching of the GCC Philippines and the accreditation of the Regional Hubs are important events that will establish the presence of GCC in the country and promote its networking activities for the next five years.

PSU, as a GCED regional hub will primarily engage in the promotion of GCED and implementation of GCED-related programs in Region I and help empower institutions within the region to be more active advocates for the endeavor.

This selection is an attestation of Pangasinan State University’s openness and commitment to being an active partner of the Philippine Normal University, the Asia Pacific Center of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) under the auspices of UNESCO and the GCED Cooperation Center Philippines (GCC Philippines) in the promotion and facilitation of GCED programs in the region.

PSU President Dr. Dexter R. Buted was represented by Dr. Liza L. Quimson, the Campus Executive Director of Bayambang Campus and Dr. Razeale F. Resultay, the Director for Curriculum and Instruction of the University as GCED Region I Focal Persons, during the event.

Global Citizenship Education is a form of civic learning that involves student’s active participation in projects that address global issues that can be social, political and economic in nature. It aims to empower learners of all ages to assume active roles, both locally and globally in building more peaceful tolerant, inclusive and secure societies.
