Banking on sisterhood and the will to help fellow academic institutions, Pangasinan State University (PSU) officials travelled to Aklan State University (ASU) in the Visayas to heed the latter’s call for motivational talks and benchmarking presentations.

University President Dr. Dexter R. Buted led the PSU Team, together with Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Ian Evangelista, Director Billy Festijo, of the Presidential Management and Liaison Office and Dean Leoncio Barlaan of the College of Hospitality Management in a two-day ocular and campus tour as well as a meeting with Aklan SU key officials and benchmarking presentations showcasing PSU’s best practices.

The delegates from Luzon were welcomed by Aklan SU key officials led by SUC President III Dr. Emily Arangote who congratulated the PSU Team for the numerous achievements it has earned.
“The accomplishments of your University are a manifestation of your commitment and passion in serving the Higher Education sector. This will help us prepare as we take on various quality assurance mechanisms in order to further improve the quality of education we provide to our clientele,” Dr. Arangote said.

These achievements, she said, are the reasons why Aklan wanted to learn from PSU thus inviting the Team to share their best practices.
Capitalizing on first-hand experiences, struggles and triumphs, the PSU Team ably presented the journey towards achieving the Philippine Quality Award, Institutional Accreditation and Investors in People recognitions.

“PSU embraces the culture of quality. This is crucial in ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of University operations. We were able to achieve all of these through concerted efforts. Everybody contributed. This is the power of a dream,” Dr. Buted said during his talk.
While in Aklan, the PSU Team also got the chance to meet Mr. Butch Sacay, Astoria Current Boracay General Manager.

Astoria Current is one of the affiliated properties of Astoria Culinary & Hospitality Institute – ACHI (both subsidiaries of Astoria Hotels and Resorts) which is one of PSU’s industry partners in providing on-the-job training for its Hospitality Management Students.

This activity also marks the final preparation of the university in the soft launch of the Golden Lion Hotel, the region’s first state-of-the-art training hotel, slated in September 2022.
