The eight delegates from SKSU were warmly welcomed by PSU Officials with the hope that the two universities will learn from each other’s best practices in various departments.
Mr. Rennie Martinez, Director for Accounting Services Office shared the PSU best practices of the Finance Department while Dr. Jun Camara, Dean of the College of Teacher Education- Lingayen Campus shared best practices in educational programs targeting high passing rates and producing topnotchers, side-by-side a video presentation of the CTE in Bayambang Campus which is recognized as a Center of Excellence.
Dr. Felcris Dy, representing the Food Innovation Center located also in the Bayambang Campus, talked on behalf of the center while Director for Institutional Assessment and Accreditation Prof. William Cayetano and Extension Director Francis Albert Argente discussed Quality Assurance and Research, Extension and Innovation Support, respectively.
PSU Vice-President for Administration and Linkages Dr. Elbert M. Galas, Vice-President for Quality Assurance Dr. Marcelo C. Gutierrez, Jr. and Vice President for Planning and Finance Management Dr. Corazon B. Puzon answered queries from the SKSU delegates which revolved on coordination mechanism, centralized processes, deloading or equivalent workload, CTE efforts and struggles, income generation projects, report submission and library services.
University President Dr. Dexter Buted humbly shared the secret behind the accomplishments of the University which is the collaborative effort of all PSUnians.
“It’s not magic when you put up your five-year strategic plan. This is in consultation with all stakeholders and most specially we’re looking really on the best interest of the many. We put premium on people because we consider them as important assets in the organization. Without the people working together then there is no such thing as the realization of the vision, the mission and the objectives of the institution,” Dr. Buted said.
The visionary president also mentioned the importance of institutional learning outcomes.
Saying that an institution without any ILO will never come up with the branding of an institution.
“Iyon ang gusto naming pamana sa aming mga graduates. We would like to produce mabubuting graduates at mahuhusay na graduates…Not just about competence, not just about commitment, but above all it boils down to kabutihan,” he added.
In response, SKSU Chief Administrative Officer Ms. Lani B. Alcon, who headed the delegation, said that PSU served as their motivation during their bid for Philippine Quality Award (PQA) level II accreditation.
“Nung nagtatrabaho po kami sa aming PQA, nakikita namin ang inyong videos, nag be-benchmark na kami sa inyong website and we are happy that we got this opportunity to visit PSU face-to-face,” she added.
The Pangasinan State University as the first and only educational institution conferred with the Philippine Quality Award Level III, opens its door for meeting of minds activities to share and develop best practices in providing quality education and services.
