In a bid to advance excellent and quality public service, the Sangguniang Bayan of the Local Government Unit of Asingan moved to approve the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with Pangasinan State University for the academic institution’s Innovations and Technology Support Office (ITSO) program.
A committee hearing presided over by the Chair of the Committee on Education Hon. Joselito Viray was set on May 4, 2023 for the SB committee members to deliberate on the necessity and benefits of the program.
PSU Vice President Dr. Razeale Resultay of the Research, Extension, Innovation and Gender and Development (REIGn) Unit, who represented University President Dr. Elbert M. Galas in the said Hearing, expounded on the advantages of the conduct of an Intellectual Property Caravan that would help educate entrepreneurs and provide them with the necessary tools and knowledge to protect their IP and sustain a favorable business in Asingan.
“With this program, PSU aims to support Intellectual Property creation, protection and utilization. Lahat ng creations of the mind pati mismo yung process ay tutulungan nating maprotektahan o malagyan ng patent at ma-commercialize,” Dr. Resultay said during the committee hearing.
The Vice-President added that PSU seeks to promote innovation among students and faculty and provide a platform for the innovative ideas and turn them into viable products or services and may offer programs, facilities and resources to support the program such as innovation centers, incubation hubs and technology transfer office.
In the MOA to be signed, LGU Asingan shall identify and recommend qualified participants, provide the venue and snacks and mobilize other resources necessary for the conduct of the training in batches.
SB members present in the committee hearing include: Hon. Marivic Robeniol, Hon Melchor Cardinez and Hon. Mel Lopez. LGU officials were also around to answer queries including Budget Officer Emely Badua.
Innovation Support Director Engr. Jeff Perreyras, who conducted initial talks with LGUs for the adoption of the project, said the ITSO project would greatly benefit the municipalities to generate and scale up actions in all levels and areas of education, training, research and development towards promoting innovation and internalization activities.
Meanwhile, Dr. Resultay with the Director for Public Relations, Publication and Information Office Asst. Prof. Venus H. Sarmiento, paid a courtesy visit to Asingan Mayor Carlos Lopez, Jr. who profusely thanked PSU for the help it is extending to the people of Asingan especially the students and the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) cooperators and vendors.
