The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) lauded the Food Innovation Center of the Pangasinan State University as it continues to be a hub for innovation, research and support services for value-adding of fresh produce and development of processed tools.

In his recent visit to PSU -Bayambang Campus, Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato dela Pena said he is glad that the technologies he taught the Center two years ago have been learned, applied and further developed.
“Dito sa FIC ng PSU, natutuwa ako na nagbubuhos ng sariling investment dito ang University para maging mas kumpleto ang makinarya at pangangailangan sa food processing,” the Secretary said.

Sec. Dela Pena said there are much more technologies to learn like ready-to-eat food which can be utilized during disasters.
University President Dr. Dexter Buted, in his message, thanked DOST for the long-standing partnership and linkages with PSU that allowed it to do and achieve its mission.

“As a one-stop food research and development facility, the FIC provides local food processers the opportunity to innovate on old products, produce new ones or create new benefits to agricultural and fishery resources,” Dr. Buted said.
Aside from product innovation, the Center also offers academic support to PSU students and even those from other universities on their research studies and provides technical support to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) related to food processing and product shelf-life extension.

Dr. Buted said aside from the FIC, PSU has on-going collaborations with DOST-PCIEERD, DOST-PCARRD and the DOST Junior Level Science Scholarship.

“With the mandate to increase access of developed technologies by its adopters, this partnership enabled us to create effective technology application, transfer and commercialization for sustained economic growth and productivity in our communities,” Buted said.

After touring the Food Innovaton Center, Sec. Dela Pena and Dr. Buted tasted the products displayed at the Benigno Aldana gymnasium in the said town.

Also present during the event were DOST Undersecretary Sancho Mabborang, Regional Director Armando Ganal, 1Food Corporation Chief Executive Officer Jorge YUlo and Bayambang Tourism Office representatives.

PSU Vice-Presidents Dr. Elbert Galas and Dr.Paulo Cenas, along with Bayambang Campus Executive Director Liza Quimson and the entire PSU family warmly welcomed the DOST officials and guests. (Golden Lion)
