PSU inks partnership with DA for campus radio expansion

Hitting the airwaves soon is Pangasinan State University’s very own Campus Radio Station.

PSU, a highly recognized academic institution, is mandated to continuously undertake instruction, research, production and extension training activities aimed at enhancing the quality of higher education and countryside development.

As an ASEAN premier educational hub, PSU desires to establish a radio station in its campus to serve as a training laboratory for faculty, students and researchers of the Development Communication Degree program.

With Pangasinan being an agricultural province, the radio station shall also serve as a medium to disseminate useful and relevant agricultural technologies including its various research studies as part of the extension services to the community.

Thus, PSU formalized its partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement led by Agriculture Secretary William Dar and PSU President Dr. Dexter R. Buted on June 25, 2022.

Standing in as witnesses to the agreement are Board Secretary Ms. Aileen Batang, as represented by Ms. Jenelyn Manlincon and Mr. Isaiah Diaz and the OIC-Director of the Public Relations, Publication and Information Office (PRPIO) Asst. Prof. Venus May Sarmiento with Ms. Fhoebe Kates Castillo.

From the DA side, those who witnessed the MOA signing were: Regional Director Nestor Domenden, Regional Technical Director for Operations Erlinda Manipon, OIC-RTD for Research and Regulation Florentino Adarme and OIC-Division Chief for Field Operations Loida Pacursa.

Both parties shall collectively develop a five-year Operation and Financial Plan as stipulated in the MOA.

In 2021, PSU has established the building to be used as a broadcast studio and management office. It has also procured and set-up broadcast equipment with training component in radio broadcasting.

The operation of PSU Campus Radio Station, using the call sign DZPS and radio frequency 101.3 mhz, is another hallmark testament to PSU’s endeavor to boost the engagement of faculty, students and the community in pursuing education advancement for all.
